StepSync (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a fitness and wellness tracking app for steps, workouts, sleep insights, goals, and related features. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have. It is written to support Google Play User Data and Health apps requirements, including transparency for Health Connect and similar health permissions.

Important: StepSync is for general fitness and wellness only. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

2. Information we collect

Account information

  • Name and email when you create an account.
  • If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile details (such as name and email) according to your settings with that provider.
  • Optional profile photo if you upload one.
  • Optional profile details you choose to add (for example gender, height, or weight) used for personalized estimates such as calorie calculations.

Fitness and activity data

  • Steps from your device pedometer and, when you grant access, from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android).
  • Sleep sessions when you grant Apple Health or Health Connect sleep access.
  • Workouts you start in StepSync — activity type, duration, GPS route points (when location is enabled), distance, pace, elevation (when available), and calorie estimates.
  • Calorie estimates — calculated in the app using activity type, duration, GPS distance/speed when available, and your profile weight (or a default adult weight if weight is not set). On Android we do not read active calories or heart rate from Health Connect.
  • Floors / floors climbed may be estimated from device sensors (for example barometer) where available — not from Health Connect Floors on Android.

Health Connect (Android) — minimum scope

If you connect Google Health Connect, StepSync requests read access only to:

  • Steps — to show and sync daily step totals
  • Sleep sessions — to import sleep into the Sleep tab

StepSync does not request Health Connect access to heart rate, active calories, total calories, distance, floors, exercise sessions, or other unused types, and it does not write health data to Health Connect.

Apple Health (iOS)

On iOS, with your permission, StepSync may read steps, sleep, and (during workouts) heart rate and active energy from Apple Health to power the same features. You may also allow StepSync to save completed workout summaries to Apple Health. You can revoke access in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.

Location

  • Precise location is used for route maps during an active GPS workout (foreground and, if you allow, background while a workout is running).
  • We do not use location for ads targeting or unrelated background tracking when you are not in a workout.

Device, diagnostics, and ads

  • App version, device model, OS version, and crash/error diagnostics to improve reliability.
  • On the free tier, advertising identifiers may be used by Google AdMob (or similar) subject to their policies. StepSync Pro may remove ads where offered.

Payments

  • Purchases of StepSync Pro are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We do not receive your full payment card number. We may receive subscription status and product identifiers needed to unlock Pro features.

3. How we use information

  • Provide core features: step rings, stats, sleep views, workout maps, goals, sync, and account management.
  • Estimate calories and related metrics when sensor/health calories are not available.
  • Operate optional challenges/leaderboards and show your display name (and photo if set).
  • Send transactional emails (password reset, account deletion confirmation, support).
  • Show ads to free users; improve security and fix bugs.
  • Comply with law and enforce our terms.

We use health and fitness data only for the fitness/wellness features described above, consistent with Google Play Health Connect and health permissions rules. We do not sell your personal data. We do not use Health Connect data for unrelated purposes such as advertising targeting of health data.

  • Physical activity / motion — step counting
  • Location (and background location during workouts) — GPS routes
  • Notifications — reminders and workout alerts
  • Camera / photos — optional profile photo
  • Health Connect / Apple Health — as described above

You can deny or revoke permissions in system settings or in Profile → Privacy & Data. Some features will not work without the related permission.

5. Sharing

We share data only with processors that help us run StepSync, for example:

  • Cloud hosting and databases for account sync
  • Map providers (for example Google Maps) to display routes
  • Email delivery (for example Brevo) for transactional mail
  • Crash reporting (when enabled)
  • AdMob for free-tier ads
  • Apple and Google for sign-in and subscriptions

These providers may process data only to provide their services to us and must protect it appropriately.

6. Retention & deletion

  • We keep account and synced activity data while your account is active.
  • You can clear local app data from Profile → Privacy & Data without deleting your account.
  • You can request deletion of your account and associated server data at https://stepsync.fit/delete-account.html or from in-app account settings. We delete associated account data from our systems subject to any short-term backups or legal retention needs.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (including HTTPS in transit and access controls) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. Children’s privacy

StepSync is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not use the app if you are under that age. Contact us if you believe we collected data from a child without appropriate consent.

9. Your choices

  • Update profile and weight in the app
  • Manage Health Connect / Apple Health and other permissions in system settings
  • Clear local data or delete your account as described above
  • Email us for privacy questions or data requests

10. International users

If you use StepSync from outside the country where our servers are hosted, your information may be processed in that host country. By using the app you understand this transfer may occur as needed to provide the service.

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy. For material changes we may provide additional notice in the app or by email when appropriate.
